The voices everywhere around us are powerful . . . and mostly negative. When was the last time advertising told a wife, mother, or single woman that, “You’re enough” or “You have a full, rich, meaningful life” or “You’re beautiful just the way you are”? . . . almost never! And, those voices aren’t just neutral. The constant barrage of messages is the opposite – tearing down, bringing women low.
For husbands, fathers, and single men, the messages are different but equally negative. What the world dishes up every day reminds us all of what we aren’t, what we haven’t achieved, how we don’t measure up, and that we have little value. Not exactly an uplifting message. Is this how God would have Christian men and women to think and speak about themselves and others?
So, I have a question for you . . .
If the world is busy tearing down all the people you know and love, what are the constant messages coming from your home to the ears of your husband, wife, or kids? What are the messages that you are speaking on a daily basis into the hearts of the most important relationships you will have this side of heaven?
Are the words of affirmation spoken in your home? Do you build up the person next to you in your living room, kitchen, and bedroom, every day? If I were to ask your spouse or kids would they say, “My (husband, wife, dad, mom) is always speaking to me in a positive way, lifting me up with encouragement and affirmation”?
In this episode, Lisa and I talk about the power of words we speak to the closest relationships we have – how we’ve done it wrong from time to time – and how to get it right. The Bible tells us that the tongue is full of deadly poison . . . but it also says that when we speak kindly to each other, it brings “health to the bones” (Proverbs 16:24).
What are you bringing each day to your home by how you speak to your husband/wife? Join us for the conversation . . .
