BEWARE OF THE KIND, THOUGHTFUL NEUROSURGEON
He thought he was doing me a favor by asking, “Do you want me to kill your daughter?” He didn’t use exactly those words but, that is exactly what he meant. What he actually said was, “Would you like me to stop feeding Avonléa?” . . . would you like me to kill your daughter by starving her to death?
You see, when Avonléa’s neurosurgeon considered the life he intended to live and the thought of a brain-damaged daughter getting in the way of all that . . . well, he had compassion on me. He didn’t want that for me and Lisa so, he offered to kill Avonléa – offered to solve the problem right there, in the sterile cleanliness of the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit.
“Ugh . . . no thanks, Doc. We’ll just keep feeding her like we do all our kids.”
So, there it was, eighteen years ago . . . and, here it is again . . . to kill or not to kill (the kids) that is the question.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MAN BECOMES A god?
The passing of the #NewYorkAbortionBill two days ago (kill any child, for any reason, right up to birth) is as logical as it was inevitable because when God is removed from the discussion, man becomes god . . . and, with god, all things are possible.
No God, no boundaries that cannot be removed. New god, new boundaries that can be moved anywhere or discarded altogether. It’s really that simple – like playing tennis with the net down and no lines on the court. You get to do whatever you want.
The expanded NY Abortion Law stipulates when a full-term child can be killed, “ . . . at any time when necessary to protect a patient’s life or health.”
Sounds compassionate, doesn’t it? But anyone with an IQ higher than a razor clam knows this phrase actually means ‘for any reason whatsoever’, which has been proven by Doe v. Bolton, a case that defines the “health” of the mother as “all factors – physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman’s age – relevant to the well-being of the patient.”
The only surprising aspect of the #NewYorkAbortionLaw is that it didn’t include the right to kill children of any age before or after birth, because the logic that got us this far will easily take us all the way. It’s only a matter of time.
So, what is the reasoning – the logic – behind the Law?
IF BEING ‘HUMAN’ DOESN’T MAKE YOU A ‘PERSON’ THEN WHAT DOES?
The new Law redefines “person” based on geography. The Law says a person is, “a human being who has been born and is alive.” The Law doesn’t argue that the unborn child isn’t a human baby, having already lived nine months of his/her life, just that, because of geography – a few inches through the birth canal – that human child isn’t a “person”.
Let’s keep this straight – It’s now okay to kill human beings who aren’t persons, but it is morally wrong to kill human beings who are persons?
It’s simple, straightforward, logic . . . based on whether or not the child is a “person” . . . and that definition is based on where the child is, geographically.
As a dad with a brain-damaged daughter (or as an adult with the capacity to think) this is all very personal with me because if “personhood” is what protects a child from murder and personhood is defined by geography, then the definition of personhood can (and very likely will) be altered by the next crop of legislative gods with the inclination to update the definition.
What is stopping personhood or human value and the right to life from being redefined by ethnicity, religion, gender, disabilities, . . . or any other category those with power choose to include? It’s all been done before.
That’s when our daughter, Avonléa will, again, be in the crosshairs of those who “care” about what is “best”.
…Like when the neurosurgeon asked me, point-blank, “Would you like me to stop feeding Avonléa?” (in other words, kill her by starving her to death)
My daughter may have severe brain damage but, she’s a person, with value and dignity. . . isn’t she?
Well, maybe for now, but the definition could change.
IF ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD, YOU’D BETTER MAKE SURE WHICH GOD YOU’RE SERVING
And once again it will be about geography – in which State we happen to live at the time the State redefines what a person is and the basis of the value of a human life.
Such is the capriciousness of the gods.
“Oh, that would never happen!” some will undoubtedly say . . . some who know nothing of history . . . some who have forgotten that, with god, all things are possible.
Shame on you, New York legislators. Your definitions do not the Truth make.
Those who still can . . . THINK for a moment!
If what it means to be a person of inherent value is decided in State legislatures, the options are limited only by the fertile imaginations of men and women in power. Either there is a transcendent Standard or whoever has the power decides.
Maybe Jesus was blowing smoke when he declared in Luke 17:2 of those who hurt children, “It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones”?
Personally, I think he meant what he said. At some point, we’ll all find out, won’t we?
And, if he did, there’s going to be Hell to pay.
