Do you remember when you kissed each other the first time? Lisa and I sure do . . . not because it was an epic, romantic kiss. It was more like, “Husband and Wife do Stand Up Comedy!” Our front teeth clunked together like two blocks of wood! At first, we weren’t sure what happened. Then we burst out laughing! I needed some serious practice!
On our wedding day, I planned the big “swoop” kiss, leaning over Lisa as she fell back against my arm. But it turned out like communism – better in theory than practice! It was all I could do to keep from dropping her in front of all those people while trying to look romantic kissing her!
Trust me, we’ve gotten much better at it since then!
We kissed a lot in those weeks/months/years of newly married life. I’m sure you did, too! But, then life happens, doesn’t it – busyness, bills, blind spots, and babies. The demands on our time and the frustrations of life pile up but there are still just twenty-four hours in the day. Before you notice, you’re kissing less and less. Is that what you both wanted?
The thing about a great marriage is that it’s always about the basics . . . And the basics are what we tend to neglect when life piles on . . . basics like kissing. That’s right, we are discussing kissing on the podcast – and not just the quick ‘peck-and-run’ kiss as you bolt out the door, but a lingering, meaningful kiss.
Question guys: When was the last time you stopped your wife in the hall, placed your hands on her shoulders looked in her eyes deeply, and then gave her a long, slow kiss, just because?
The wedding day is long passed but when did she stop desiring to be kissed like you kissed her on your wedding day?
