Thanksgiving, Christmas Time , New Years just around the corner . . it’s the holiday season and I find myself thinking about where we’ve been, where we’re headed, and of the hope we have for the future. Can you relate?
As you think about where your marriage is today compared to last year, many of you have come so far, haven’t you? That’s because you’ve discovered something about doing things according to the handbook – the Word – that has changed everything: Do things God’s way and transformation follows quickly! Isn’t it amazing what can happen in so short a time when we soften our hearts and yield to the Truth? It’s awesome!
This truth also makes me a bit sad for a wonderful Christian couple I spoke to, recently. They’ve been in counseling for over a year and have made only tiny changes toward the marriage they both want. Like many, they’ve settled for incremental change – a little here, a little there – and find that even after months and now years of focus on their marriage, there have been only small changes. Lisa and I know another couple who’ve been in counseling for over 20 years (no exaggeration!) and to us, their marriage is the same as it was 20 years ago. And these folks claim to be Christians. It’s sad, really, that so many couples settle for small change when transformation to the marriage they both say they desire is right in front of them, if only they would yield to the ways of the Word.
Either they’re ignorant and don’t know what is possible, or they’re getting poor/wrong biblical advice, or even worse, they like the way things are. It’s hard to believe but some want the status quo. If small, incremental change is all you have to show for all your time, effort, and investment and, you genuinely desire real progress, it’s time to consider a change! God doesn’t do incremental. God does transformation!
When God gets involved, transformation follows. The marriage God intends for you is about change at a heart level and, when that happens, God’s best for you will become a reality in your marriage.
This is why we’re saying you should give your marriage a gift this Christmas! And, maybe it’s a bit (a lot!) bold to say, but we hope that you all will get a set of the 100 Ways to Love books (right now, they’re being offered for an amazing discount – both books for the price of one!) and the 100 Words of Affirmation books – for yourself and perhaps as a gift for a couple you know who could benefit from them.
Do these books make a difference? Here is a comment we received from a reader:
So, we bought these books about a month-and-a-half ago and right before either one of us started reading them . . . some events happened and I left and asked for a divorce. I’ve been away fro just a little over a month – not even in the same state – but he started reading this book and he has already done a complete 360 (I think she meant 180!) of who he used to be in our relationship and this book alone has saved our marriage. We both have the will to love each other and want to make it work but this book has made a big difference in our lives and I’m glad it’s out there. Kathy Ribbons Hughes
How about a couple with a good marriage for years? Here is a comment from a couple, happily married for decades:
My husband and I have been married 22 years (one and only marriage for both of us). We are thoroughly enjoying these books! They are perfect for newlyweds and those of us who have been married for a long time. I’ll be handing these down to our kids when the time comes! SuperMomof3
Couples soon to be married right up to couples in their 60s have benefited from reading and applying the practical teaching found in these books. The podcast today includes Lisa and I reading excerpts from the books to give you a sense of the content. We hope you enjoy the podcast (it gets a bit frisky in a few places! . . . and there are a few tears, as well, for a sad spot in our journey together). And, we hope you follow our example and seek to live with each other according to God’s principles found in His Word. And, get a copy of the books for yourself and as gifts for friends – they make thoughtful gifts for any married couple. In them you’ll find super practical advice you can begin to use in your marriage immediately.
