When Should You Have Kids? How Many Should You Have?

It’s easy for Christians to ignore what Jesus said about “little” children. Check and you’ll see he was talking about infants – babies. He was saying, “Let the babies come unto me.”

Only one problem . . . babies can’t walk. Babies don’t make decisions to come and go. Babies need to be carried.

“Don’t prevent the babies from being brought to me,” Jesus was saying. And He was making a profound point: Babies are never in the way of what God is doing in the world. Babies are what God is doing in the world, in fact, they are what heaven is all about.

Do you have Jesus’ values when it comes to babies . . . or do you agree with the disciples He rebuked publicly, who believed babies impede the things that matter, get in the way of life’s important priorities?

Many agree with the disciples. The World Health Organization reports there will be 40-50,000,000 abortions this year, worldwide. Of course good Christian people are against all that!

But good Christian people have other ways of preventing babies from coming to Jesus. How about ignoring your responsibility to disciple their hearts to know and love God? Remember, little children can’t get there themselves. They need to be carried, nurtured, brought to the Savior. (Read Deut. 6)

. . . or, how about just not bothering to have them at all, preventing them from coming into the world, altogether? It’s too hard on me, too expensive, disrupts my plans, the times are uncertain – all sound reasons from one perspective but, is this biblical reasoning, based on God’s heart for you? What does the Bible say about children, anyway? When should you have kids? How many should you have? Lisa and I share our journey on the new episode of Faithful Life podcast. It’s a big discussion about some big questions! We hope you join us!
