Strong-Willed Women and The Men Who Get to be Their Husbands!

Are you married to a strong willed women? Does she have many of her own ideas? Is she gifted, intelligent, quick witted – a real achiever? If you are, then you’re married to someone like my Lisa. A pastor attending our wedding who knew Lisa well whispered to the person next to him, “Those two will wake up hating each other!” (I’m sure he wasn’t thinking of me!!) LOL! We didn’t! But that’s another story!

The Bible is pretty clear. A woman is supposed to have “a meek and quiet spirit.” If you’re not a believer, statements like this sound like something from an alien planet or the lunatic asylum. I get it! But, for the biblical Christian, these instructions matter. So how do those strengths, qualities, and giftings fit together? What should the strong-hearted women do?

To listen to some, women are to assume the posture of a shrinking violet. And John MacArthur’s recent statement to international Bible teacher, Beth Moore, “GO HOME!” didn’t help: Whatever the nuances of his actual theology, the big message (not to mention the mocking tone of the whole affair) resounding to women everywhere was/is – you’re not welcome, here; you should be quiet; you’re only value is raising kids and keeping house.

Now, let me first say, anyone who denigrates women being housewives and mothers is a complete fool. There is no stable biblical culture without honoring and highly valuing the role of wife and mother.

Having said that, is the message of the Word that women in general, and strong-hearted women, in particular, should deny and suppress who they are in order to fulfill the biblical instruction to have a meek and quiet spirit? What should be the perspective of a husband whose wife is naturally strong?

This is the topic of today’s podcast in the link, below . . . it’s a good discussion! You should be a part of it!
