If you follow me on Instagram and watch my Instastories (@FaithfulMan) you might have seen us on our latest camping trip. We drove into the Cascade Mountains and camped at Hosmer Lake.
Hosmer is shallow and teaming with huge trout. As you glide over the still water in the canoe, early in the day, hundreds of fish swim just beneath the boat. And then there are the hawks, constantly hunting. We even saw a golden eagle fly overhead. Chipmunks and Whisky Jacks (that’s what we called them growing up in Canada – they’re also known as Camp Robbers or Grey Jays) were constant companions in camp, eating out of our hands just about anything we offered. we had a blast! There’s nothing like spending time in the Bush.
But, you don’t head into the Bush without knowing what to take, preparing and double-checking to make sure you’ve brought everything you will need. If you don’t take the time to think about the requirements of a successful, enjoyable, and safe experience, you’re headed for disaster. Did you bring matches that can be kept dry to start a fire? Do you have the proper clothes for frigid mornings? Is your sleeping bag adequate for the night temperatures? Did you bring the first-aid kit? Do you have enough food and water? Nature is amazing but, it can also be cruel. You’d better go prepared.
Focus on where we’re going informs how we live before we arrive at our destination.
You may not be going camping any time soon but we are all on the most important, consequential journey of our lives. We’re heading to eternity. As people living in this fast-paced world, there’s nothing more natural than being caught up in the challenges, pressures, and pleasures of this life. But this life isn’t our destination. Eternity awaits – today, tomorrow, ten years from now? We don’t know the hour or the day appointed for us so we need to live ready.
Are we living in light of eternity? Are we allowing our destination to inform how we live? Are we preparing for where we are going? What we focus on affects how we see everything else. Where is your focus, this week? This is our topic on the new episode of FAITHFUL LIFE podcast. Click here to join the conversation . . .
