Before marriage and children, did you believe your family would be close and loving? Of course you did! It’s the default of every parent, “We’re going to have a close, caring, tight-knit family.”
Before Lisa and I had kids, I thought the same: Marriage + Children = Close Family. Easy math – except when reality hit, we soon learned that being a loving family with a growing closeness requires far more than people and time.
Do you know how to cultivate deep, close family relationships in your young children and teenagers? Have you experienced the tight, loving family you desire? Many haven’t and many never will because they haven’t learned that growing close requires changing our perspective and changing the things we have been doing that divide family relationships and lead to separate lives.
