Have you ever struggled with anxiety – those stabbing fears that strike at random, day or night? Man, woman, young, middle-aged, old . . . doesn’t much matter. Anxiety is an equal opportunity attacker, sapping the joy out of life and imprisoning it’s victims in a constant state of fear.
How is it that we get so comfortable with this intruder that we treat it as a normal part of life, doing our best to manage it and keep it from breaking out and attacking us? Many Christians live as if anxiety is a poorly caged tiger they live near but can do nothing about – knowing that sooner-or-later, it will break out and do it’s damage.
Is this how the God of the universe calls His Children to live? Is living with anxiety a normal part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ? We tend to think the things that are common to most people’s experience are normal but, for the Christian, living under the constant threat of anxiety may well be common but it is most certainly not normal.
How do we know this? Because what God has said, what He wants us to know about Him, and about how to live, is found in the Bible. Fear (not the reverent fear of God but the dirty fear of the enemy) is not from God. Consider what the Word says: For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
That fear your facing . . . it’s not from God. It’s an intruder. It’s from the enemy of your soul.
What’s to be done about it? How will you deal with it the next time it strikes and the tightness grips your chest and causes your mind to race with anxious thoughts? The great news is that God has a step-by-step plan, given in His Word, on how to meet and defeat this intruder! And, that’s what today’s podcast is all about: Defeating anxiety and finding real peace.
