Shepherding a Child’s Heart
“I believe this is the Best Book on parenting ever written.”
“I may be sitting down on the outside but I’m still standing on the inside!” Have you ever experienced this or something similar as a parent . . . your child yielding outwardly but remaining resistant or defiant on the inside?
When asked for book suggestions on raising children, it’s an easy call. Tedd Tripp’s books, Shepherding a Child’s Heart and Shepherding a Child’s Heart: HandBook are always at the very top of my list. These are the best parenting books ever written, in my judgment. They aren’t merely good books. They are exceptionally excellent books that take parents, young or old, to the very heart of God’s view of and instruction in parenting.
If you’ve encountered parenting challenges and need direction, encouragement, or practical advice, these books provide what you need.
Author Tedd Tripp is a godly, wise, biblical husband and father, with a long track record. You can trust what he says. His parenting instruction flows from thoroughly biblical wisdom and is profoundly different from much parenting advice available, today.
Parents are often concerned with correcting behavior, which is important. What Tripp does so masterfully, however, is to help parents understand that the real issue in parenting isn’t getting children to conform their behavior to some external standard but to yield their hearts to what God desires – which is always for their best.
The heart of the matter is the heart of your child . . . and that is the very heart of these uncommonly beneficial books. The teaching they contain will change forever the way you think about your role as parent and your approach in disciplining your children. You can purchase them here . . .
“The Heart of the Matter is the Heart of Your Child”
If ever there was a book that embodied the Scriptures in Malachi 4:6 “He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers . . .” this book is it.
It was the mid ‘90s. I always thought of myself as an attentive, even careful, father. But in reading Tripp’s book, I was struck to the core with how I had fallen into the pattern of disciplining for preferred behavior rather than shepherding the hearts of my children. You, too, will be challenged and blessed by the message and instruction of these books.
Shepherding Your Child’s Heart and the companion Handbook are filled with profound wisdom and practical, useable instruction. Fantastic gifts for newlyweds, I recommend them to every couple contemplating children but they are also ideal for parents of older children who could benefit from a “reset” in their approach and relationships.
If you know parents who are struggling in their responsibility but are willing to receive the help these books offer, I can say without hesitation, you will transform their lives profoundly by making a gift of them.
